Surf footage 8/6

This day there were fewer of us since a couple guys had gone home already. We headed over to a different spot due to a change in wind direction and got some decent waves. We had also gone over here the previous day, but I didn’t have the camera out with me for that session, not that I did anything worth filming that day anyway. This day however, I think I got my best wave. I annotated this footage to point out the ride, but it was a fast right that walled up in front of me really nicely and I managed to draw the line I needed to make the section. so much FUN.

Surf footage from 8/4

More footage from the same stay at the coast. The next day. Same spot. Same board. Same crew. (Along with a few locals that showed up). Waves seemed a bit smaller than the previous day, but it was still fun.

(btw: comments asking for or providing further details about surf spot location won’t be approved.)

Surf footage from 8/3

Like most of the footage I’ve posted, this is just a quickly cut together set of footage from the raw. There are no transitions or music and mostly this is because it’s what I have the time to actually throw together. Eventually I will work on more heavily edited videos, including some stills and additional footage left behind. Ultimately the plan is to do a final movie containing the activities of this year, but that’s still some months in the future. In the mean time, this will provide some glimpses of what may be included later. This day was a fun adventure with a bicycle ride to this surf spot with some buddies from nearby (Portland) and far away (Utah). We were all staying at a vacation rental on the beach and had a great week at the coast.

This is also my first surf session with my brand new custom firewire surfboard. It’s a customized dominator; wider in the front, narrower in the rear, and slightly thinner than stock. It’s still super thick at the 6’9″ length and floaty. It’s exactly what I wanted it to be, which is really easy to paddle and fun in smaller surf. It took 4 months to get this board and I don’t know that I’d go through that wait again, but it sure is a blast for summer surf in Oregon!

This also includes a pretty entertaining view of me getting worked by a wave that I missed the takeoff on.

My Pi has arrived!

After almost 4 months, my Raspberry Pi arrived this past weekend. I’ve already overclocked a little (no overvolting, don’t want to scrap the warranty just yet), installed the debian squeeze image, promptly replaced that with the preview of the raspbian image (now officially available on the downloads page), ran Quake 3, found my old cd and got the retail pak installed, tweaked the config, and got the timedemo up to 36.1fps. I tried to get the Urban Terror mod going and discovered an issue that’s a non-starter related to a required memory allocation. I also made a temporary cardboard case for it (it looks horrible). In the near future I’m going to upgrade the sd card to a larger/faster one I already have and I’m still deciding on building/buying a nicer case. A usb hard drive install is probably next.

I’m envisioning some other projects for it, but right now I’m just doing some performance tinkering and seeing what I can squeeze out of it…
